What does the term image resolution and abbreviations dpi and ppi?

A digital image is composed of many pixels. The resolution refers to nothing more than a certain number of points or pixels on a given route.

The resolution of an image is given as ppi (pixels per inch = pixels per 2.54cm) or dpi (dots per inch = Points per 2.54cm).

The optimal image resolution depends on what you want to do with the image. The resolution of an image for the screen is not relevant.
